About Impact

Impact was established in 1998 by Shelley Wills and David Thornicroft who combined their very different but complementary skills and experience to develop the successful business they run today.

Shelley Wills

Shelley's management career began in 1980 in the United Arab Emirates. She first became self employed, running her own business in 1988.  In 1995 she moved onto designing and delivering training and formed Impact with David in December 1998. 

Shelley's role in Impact is to develop the business by maintaining a strategic view, developing innovative new business through networking, marketing and bid writing.  Shelley also holds responsibility for human resources and customer services. Shelley currently designs and delivers management training and most enjoys working with new and aspiring managers.

David Thornicroft

David's career in social care began in 1986 after qualifying in social work at Exeter University.  Over the next 12 years David worked in the probation service and in residential projects for children, adults with learning disabilities and adults with mental health needs.  David became self employed as a freelance trainer in May 1997 prior to setting up Impact with Shelley in December 1998. 

David's role in Impact is to ensure the smooth running of the organisation through ensuring systems are effective, quality standards are assured and existing relationships with customers are maintained to complete satisfaction.  David also holds responsibility for financial planning, optimising technology and developing new courses and services.  David currently delivers Mental Health Training and particularly enjoys new legislation.
