The Personalisation Agenda

This is the Government's "Big Idea" in relation to the provision of health and social care services.

It's very difficult to explain clearly in a few lines what it is, but here goes ...

The aim is to give service users as much control as possible over the services they receive. So service users are to be treated as active partners in the planning and provision of services, rather than as passive recipients of whatever service can be found for them.

Personalisation requires a fundamental re-evaluation of the way services are provided. It is not intended to be a "tinkering-at-the-edges" sort of approach.

Local authorities, health trusts, private, voluntary and independent sector providers are expected to work together to identify what service users really want, and then make conscious efforts to provide what has been identified.
